Pilgrimage Creations Newsletter | January, 2013
Welcome to the first Pilgrimage Creations Newsletter for 2013. We wish you the best for the new year.
Everything you read about here is on our Pilgrimage Creations website. Finding your Camino RhythmsThis year we are introducing our seven-day Finding your Camino Rhythms offering. We offer you our help to get you past your apprehensions and any other obstacles that may be in the way of you walking the often life-changing pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago. We want to help you find the spiritual, emotional, and physical rhythms that will help make your Camino experience not only rich and joyful but also a path to improving your life. We want to guide you into the spiritual retreat and personal quest that the Camino can be. Together we offer you spiritual and both masculine and feminine insights to the many faces of this pilgrimage route.
We believe walking the Camino at its best is fundamentally a personal pilgrimage. Whether you walk in a group or as an individual with us, we will help you make your first steps. We will introduce you to the Camino, show you the physical and spiritual ropes, help you find your Camino rhythm, and then leave you to walk your own pilgrimage with confidence. Basically, we propose to teach, guide, and empower you with a pre-walk workshop, then walking seven days on the Camino and finally releasing you to walk your Camino. Afterwards, we plan to contact you to see how your pilgrimage went and how you have integrated your changes into your daily life. From 10 to 17 September we will walk with a group of 6 to 12 pilgrims. Then we have openings for two walkers who would rather walk individually. Go to our Finding your Camino Rhythms web pages to learn more about this great opportunity to begin your life pilgrimage on the Camino with two well-seasoned Camino walkers. StepsOn October 23, 2012 we launched Steps. Steps presents daily sayings, meditations, and observations on our pilgrimage through life. Each entry stands on its own. I make no attempt at any kind of daily continuity (unless I say so directly). My aim is an entry a day from whatever words are in front of me that day. Some steps will be soul searching; others will fall short. It will be just like our walk through life, sometimes we sail, fly like a kite, and others we mire through the mud. Join me on this journey once each day. No one knows where it will take us. Steps has kept up with its promise of daily entries. As of today we have missed only six days. Drop into Steps every few days to read something that may make you think for a while on something you haven't been thinking about recently. |
From the pages of Pilgrimage CreationsThe following advice about shoes comes from our page Some Thoughts for your Camino, our page giving advice to those thinking of walking the Camino.
Your shoes are your most important piece of equipment. You need a good pair of running or walking shoes. You do not need heavy hiking boots. On our first few long walks (including the Camino), I used good walking shoes with no ankle support. I never got one blister. But in our last walk across the US and southern Europe we walked 5300+ miles in 2009-10 with supported and cushioned running shoes. They are now my shoe of choice. I will use them on the Camino when I walk it again.
Speaking of blisters, listen to your body once you get out there. If you are getting blisters or worse, rest and then change the way you are walking or carrying your pack or tying your shoes (I usually re-tie my shoes four or five times in the morning before I get them right), or just rest a while. But, whatever else you do, listen to your body, it will tell you when you should make a change. And by all means, do not force it to do what you want by taking pain killers to hide the pain. It will come back to get you later.
