Americans living abroad often have their Little America. Kagnew Station was our Little America in Asmara. Army, Navy, and a few Air Force personnel shared it.
Three clubs, an acceptable barracks, quarters for married personnel, a school for dependents, a miniature golf course, a movie house, a photo shop, a full golf course, a bowling alley, a mess hall, a PX, a TV and a radio station, a hospital, a dental clinic, and a chapel offered us about everything the Army thought we needed. Kagnew was utilitarian and sufficient.
